I love this rod but cant justify a $300+ rod that I cant really use

You can pick up a decent spincast reel for around $20-$30 at many shops

Spool size is not a deal-breaker, it is just something you should be aware of

Though I love fishing a spinnerbait shallow year-round, Ive found that windy days in October are great for fishing them just under the surface out in open, deeper water
